Franco Pontito Magnani arrived in San Francisco in 1965. The following year, he began to paint scenes from memory of Pontito, his native village in Italy, for which he became known as “The Memory Artist.” Franco established himself in the Italian community of North Beach, living right on Green Street.

He worked as a chef at La Pantera, Giovanni, Capps’ Corner and many other restaurants. In 1974, he and his wife, Ruth, opened Pontito Art Gallery at 528 Green Street, two doors from Gino and Carlo. One evening, in 1977, he saw some beautiful pink light through his gallery window, and ran outside with his camera to take this photograph.

All artwork is done on acid free materials.
